Also a veterinary clinic director and a 1989 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Mayo has been with the practice since Jan. 1995. She has been active in animal welfare in the Dale City and Woodbridge communities for many years. She can often be found leading a Cub Scout or Brownie Troop through the animal clinic on an educational tour, having found that kids love to see x-ray evidence of flatulance. She is a proponent of teaching kids how to care for and love pets, while also learning how to be safe around them. She is an adjunct professor with the Northern Virginia Community College Veterinary Technician program, having mentored two students through their education there. Dr. Mayo is married to Kevin (NOT a veterinarian!), and has four kids - Nathan, Joe, Rebecca and Gabriel. Additionally, they have many pets-dogs, cats and birds. She and her husband have a dream of eventually owning a small farm where they would be able to have goats, sheep and maybe pigs (that they would never eat!).
"Why do I come to work, why do I still love to do this job? Our veterinary teams at our two hospitals are the best people you can know, and together we make a difference every day. Whether it's a wellness exam for a new kitten, an emergency weekend surgery on an ill dog, or a school visit to teach kids (and teachers) about our amazing profession, every day holds a new challenge and a new reward."
